Join us for the Iaunch of the IDEA Speaker Series, showcasing inspiring leaders in Nova Scotia.

We’re kicking off the inaugural event with three incredible keynote speakers – Chris Huskilson, Pat Ryan and Dale Robertson.

Our leaders are thinkers and problems solvers, with the power to innovate in times of rapid change. Their courage to take risks helped launch their inspiring careers, and paved the way for future leaders in Atlantic Canada.

Chris Huskilson

Board Member, Dalhousie University Board of Governors, Former CEO and President, Emera Inc.

Chris Huskilson is recognized for his leadership, technical acumen, and extensive experience in many aspects of the energy sector. He has held the positions of Superintendent of Hydro Production at the Mersey Hydro System, Senior Operations Planner at the Energy Control Centre, Plant Manager of both Lingan and Glace Bay Generating Stations, Vice President of Transmission & Distribution, and Executive Vice President of Operations. He was made COO of Emera and Nova Scotia Power in 2003 and President and CEO of Emera in 2004. Chris serves on many for-profit and not-for-profit boards. He holds a BSc and MSc in Engineering and Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa from the University of New Brunswick.

Dale Robertson

Founder of Enerscan Engineering and Enerscan Consultants Ltd., BEng'78

Dale Robertson has founded and operated a number of companies including Enerscan Engineering Inc. and Enerscan Consultants Ltd. With Enerscan Engineering Inc., he pioneered the use of plastics for hardware in the electricity distribution industry, manufacturing innovative products now sold on three continents. With Enerscan Consultants, his energy management consulting projects have taken him around the world in every sector of the economy. 
Over the years, Robertson has been honoured with a number of awards including the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Engineering and the Nova Scotia Discovery Centre Innovation Award for Science and Technology.
Robertson earned his BEng in Industrial Engineering from Royal Military College in 1978 but never finished his MBA at Dalhousie University.  He serves on many volunteer and for-profit boards.

Pat Ryan

Founder and President of Neocon International, BEng'83

Mr. Ryan is a Professional Engineer having graduated from TUNS now known as Dalhousie University. He is the Founder of Neocon International, a multi-million dollar automotive OEM design and manufacturing company which he conceptualized in 1993 and is headquartered in Halifax. From its start-up he was the entrepreneur with a dogged determination responsible for raising capital, assembling an imagination rich R&D team and establishing niche and disruptive product opportunities. Neocon services North American “Grade A” customers such as Honda, Mercedes and General Motors but also ships as far away as Australia and Europe. His storied career has always started with dreaming big, being bold and all with a purpose. The numerous patents and automotive supply awards from global companies such as Subaru and Toyota are testimony to Mr. Ryan’s believe that anything is possible. Neocon now employs hundreds including talented engineers, savvy marketers and technicians all of them driven by a culture of innovation.
